About Sulis Institute
The word Sulis has its roots in the word súil (meaning “eye” in Old Irish) or sight – literally (eyes) and spiritually (knowledge, insight), associated with deeper knowledge and understanding). It is a connection with the Roman goddess Sulis , who was associated with healing , wisdom , the sun , and healing water , and was worshipped in ancient Britain (Bath), where she was considered the goddess of physical and spiritual healing. Her association with the eye and gaze (gaze) is a key motif – revealing her ability to see to the core of things , her ability to use her gaze for the purpose of deeper healing.
In Latin, the word sol means “sun,” signifying a connection with light and life energy that goes beyond mere solar vibrations. At the core of the goddess Sulis lies a nurturing and compassionate nature that provides support and space for emotional healing, along with a broader vision, clarity, and inner wisdom—qualities that harmonize heart and mind and are essential for deep growth. Sulis, in this sense, represents the dynamic, energetic, and powerful vital spark of life in all that exists.
This symbolism beautifully reflects the holistic perspective and approach to deep healing of individuals, groups, or communities—a vision we strive to embody through in-depth education, opportunities for profound healing experiences, and fostering connection at the Sulis Institute.
